In 1692, Salem, Massachusetts became the epicenter of the witch trials burning across the globe. The trials ultimately led to the imprisonment of 150 Salem residents, including a 4-year old child, and the execution of 19 innocent people.
Harriet Anderson was an herbalist, intellectual, and healer. The residents came to her for treatment of their ailments when the town doctors could not cure them or the cure was too expensive to obtain. She was well-loved and respected. However, to some, this made her a target. For how could a woman do what the male doctors could not? Surely, she must have consorted with the devil!
Harriet Anderson was accused as a witch. Given a fraudulent, unfair “trial,” Harriet had no way of proving her innocence and was sentenced to death by fire. Harriet became enraged. Some of the very citizens she had helped in the past were party to her wrongful conviction. In retaliation, she sought out the devil and bargained with him to save her life. She hoped it would be a one-time, desperate thing, but Harriet became consumed by the power that was given to her. She turned completely to the Dark Arts, fled Salem, and changed her name to Madame Belladonna – naming herself after the toxic herbaceous plant that, if ingested, can cause delirium or death.
For centuries she traveled with a midnight circus, pretending to be just a psychic medium. With each town she traveled to, she stole the souls of her innocent victims and left behind a trail of missing persons and unexplained deaths.
It is now 2023, and you have traveled to the home of locally famous yet reclusive psychic medium, Madame Belladonna. You’ve brought her the locket your dearly loved and recently deceased grandmother had passed on to you after her death. It is your hope that Madame Belladonna can use the locket to channel your grandmother’s spirit for a final goodbye.
Unfortunately, Madame Belladonna has plans of her own. She has stolen your grandmother’s locket to cast a curse on both you and your grandmother. Unless you stop her, she will trap and feed off both your souls for all eternity. You have 60 minutes to retrieve your grandmother’s locket and find the incantation to escape!
